X7 Teaser Shows Kidneys Will Be Crazy, But Not Ridiculous

I mean, they're really big. But they could have been bigger.

With the new 3 Series now officially public, all those teasers had to end. So what's a BMW marketing head to do?

Find something else to tease, of course.

Luckily, three-row 2019 X7 SUV is now "coming soon", which means we get to see shadowy pictures of (some of) it on BMW's Facebook page.

Taking luxury to a higher level. The first-ever BMW X7 is coming soon.

It looks like good news for anybody who was turned off by the threateningly large grill on the X7 iPerformance concept we saw last year. Though the kidneys on Munich's latest offering are still very obviously swollen, they haven't quite crossed the line into cartoonish. The headlights help out, too; the slits on the X7 iPerformance have been ditched in favor of a slightly more open-eyed look that keeps the grill in proportion.

How exactly the rest of the vehicle is going to be proportioned remains a bit of mystery. The new G05 X5 comes in at 194.3 inches (494 cm) long, 78.9 inches (200 cm) wide and 69.0 inches (175 cm) high, so we can safely say the X7 is going to be bigger than that. Comparisons are obviously going to be drawn with that other 7-toting crossover, Audi's Q7, which is a full 5.3 inches (13.5 cm) longer than the 2019 X5. Anybody whose seen the Q7 in the metal will know that it's an absolute behemoth of a vehicle.

The BMW X5 dwarfs the Q5, though, and the X7 may well also be a step up in size from Audi's largest vehicles. At this point, the latest addition to BMW's already sizey line of SUVs could actually end up stretching more than 200 inches from bumper to bumper. Just to be clear, that's massive.

Not everybody is enthusiastic about the growing size of BMW's vehicles, but if you are, you're probably already excited. They really don't come much more XXL than the X7.
